Ruins of Lordaeron is a new dungeon in World of Warcraft: Forever set in the ruined streets of the old human capital above the Undercity, where the Scourge still holds out among the rubble.
It is the first Forever dungeon built for both factions, with separate quest lines for the Horde and the Alliance. It is a large, open, outdoor-style instance with six regular bosses, two of which must be summoned, plus a rare spawn.
Information on this page comes from the Forever beta (client builds 1.60.1.69913 to 1.60.1.70009, September 2026). Stats, drops and quest rewards can still change before launch on 4 November 2026.
Overview
[edit | edit source]| Location | Ruins of Lordaeron, above the Undercity, Tirisfal Glades (Eastern Kingdoms) |
|---|---|
| Recommended level | 15–20 (official Blizzard range) |
| Group Finder level | 15 |
| Group size | 5 players |
| Bosses | 6, plus a rare spawn (Lordaeron Captain) |
| Quests | 10 (6 Horde, 4 Alliance) |
| Lockout | None seen on the beta so far |
The recommended range is 15–20, but most of the quests are level 21–22, so a party averaging around level 17 gets much more out of a full run.
History
[edit | edit source]The city of Lordaeron fell to the Scourge when Prince Arthas returned home and murdered his father, King Terenas. The Forsaken have since built the Undercity in the catacombs beneath it, but the ruined city above has never been cleared.
In Forever the ruins open up into a full dungeon. The Forsaken are trying to recover heirlooms and memories of their old lives from the rubble, while the Scourge still holds much of the city and a necromancer there is preparing to strike at another city. The instance covers four districts: King's Alley, Market Street, Lordamere Overlook and the Lordaeron Graveyard. Each faction comes for its own reasons: the Forsaken and the Royal Apothecary Society to deal with the Scourge threat at their gates, and Stormwind to recover the fallen kingdom's regalia and put its restless defenders to rest.
Getting there
[edit | edit source]The entrance is in the ruined courtyard of Lordaeron's keep, on the east side of the main courtyard above the Undercity, at roughly 71.6, 11.4 on the map. The nearest flight path is the Undercity.
Horde characters can walk straight in from the Undercity or Brill. Alliance characters have a long and dangerous trip through Horde territory, coming in either through Silverpine Forest or from the Western Plaguelands.
Bosses
[edit | edit source]Witherfang
[edit | edit source]A giant spider who patrols along the long first hallway near the entrance. Her route is long, so watch for her while clearing the early packs.
Abilities
- Poison – her attacks sometimes apply a poison.
Tactics: A tank-and-spank, but she always brings a couple of adds with her. Horde players need her Highly Toxic Strain for The New Plague.
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Segmented Spider Leg | Two-Hand, Staff |
| Atrophic Girdle | Waist, Mail |
| Witherbite Bracers | Wrist, Leather |
The Baron
[edit | edit source]An abomination found at the end of the first hallway, at the first bend. The client data calls this encounter The Butcher; players know him as The Baron.
Abilities
- Cleave – a strong area cleave that hits everyone close to him.
- Knockback / stun – he knocks back or stuns his current target and turns on the next player.
Tactics: Ranged and healers stay well away from him. The tank should keep their back to a wall, and an off-tank should be ready to pick him up when he turns away. He drops the Abominable Head (Horde, starts Unending Torment); Alliance players loot the Head of the Baron for Abominable Creatures.
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Meathook Slicer | One-Hand, Dagger |
| Abomination Bones | Chest, Mail |
| Leftover Abomination Skin | Chest, Cloth |
The Abandoned
[edit | edit source]A summoned boss. Sources describe the trigger differently: one says you walk in front of a statue in the south-west corner of the map, another says he rises in the courtyard once every enemy there (including those inside the tower) is dead. Either way, three waves of enemies come first, then the boss himself.
Abilities
- Frost Armor – slows the movement speed of melee attackers who hit him.
- Drain Life – channelled on a player; interrupt or stun it.
- Frost Nova – roots everyone near him in place.
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Rotmender's Leggings | Legs, Cloth (set piece) |
| Grip of Fear | Hands, Mail |
| Scepter of the Abandoned | Main Hand, Mace |
Rath'mael
[edit | edit source]A mage in the south-west part of the ruins. You'll see him early on, but have to clear a lot of enemies to reach him.
Abilities
- Flamestrike – cast repeatedly; interrupt or stun every cast.
- Pulsing aura – regular area damage around him that melee can't really avoid.
Tactics: Assign interrupts before the pull. Killing him completes The Wrath of Rath'mael.
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Mirror of Rath'mael | Off Hand, Shield |
| Rotmender's Treads | Feet, Cloth (set piece) |
| Coldspire Staff | Two-Hand, Staff |
Viktor the Vile
[edit | edit source]A summoned boss. In a ruined house with a chimney in the south-west, click the kindling in the fireplace. Wave after wave of enemies then spawn in quick succession, and Viktor arrives with the final wave.
Tactics: The boss himself is a straightforward but hard-hitting tank-and-spank. The real challenge is the waves before him: the tank needs strong area threat, and the healer has to manage mana carefully.
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Vilewalkers | Feet, Mail |
| Bloodied Chestwraps | Chest, Leather |
| Vileblood Scimitar | One-Hand, Sword |
Bjork
[edit | edit source]A patrolling boss in the north-west of the ruins.
Abilities
- Knockback – occasionally knocks the tank back.
- Anti-magic shield – casters should wait for it to fade.
Tactics: He hits hard on a single target. The tank should watch what's behind them before he knocks them back.
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Bonerust Leggings | Legs, Mail |
| Corpse Chopper | Two-Hand, Axe |
| Tuskwrap Belt | Waist, Cloth |
Lordaeron Captain (rare)
[edit | edit source]A ghostly captain that only appears on some runs. No loot for him has been recorded yet.
Boss drops are item level 20–24 and require level 15–19. Early loot lists showed some items under different names (for example Wispcloth Leggings and Frostbane Treads where later lists have Rotmender's Leggings and Rotmender's Treads), so items were renamed or replaced between beta builds.

Unending Torment
[edit | edit source]When The Baron falls, his head comes loose; it has clearly been sewn back on several times. Looting it starts a Horde chain of around five quests that begins with Master Apothecary Faranell in the Apothecarium. The third step offers a choice of Slain Baron's Signet, Grave Shroud or Monstrous Cleaver, the same rewards the Alliance get from Abominable Creatures.
Crest of Lordaeron
[edit | edit source]Both factions have their own version of this quest, and it starts from a crest item found on the ground inside the ruins. Players have found it in different places, including inside a tower with a large open door near Bjork and in a hidden room near The Baron, so its spawn point may vary.
Denizens
[edit | edit source]- Bosses: Witherfang, The Baron (The Butcher), The Abandoned, Rath'mael, Viktor the Vile, Bjork
- Rare: Lordaeron Captain
- Others: Scourge ghouls, stitched abominations and other undead, plus the waves summoned before The Abandoned and Viktor the Vile
Tips
[edit | edit source]- Horde should collect the four outside quests first: two in the Undercity, one near Brill and one at the Sepulcher in Silverpine.
- Most Alliance quests start from items looted inside, so there's nothing to collect beforehand.
- Keep an eye out for Witherfang's patrol while clearing the first hallway.
- Interrupts matter: Drain Life on The Abandoned and every Flamestrike from Rath'mael.
- Viktor the Vile's waves are the hardest part. Only start them with full mana and cooldowns ready.
