The Hall of Thanes is a new dungeon in World of Warcraft: Forever: the royal tomb of Ironforge's ancient dwarven kings, deep beneath Old Ironforge, which intruders have broken into.

It is the Alliance's first dungeon, sitting at the same level as Ragefire Chasm on the Horde side. It has four bosses and a handful of new quests, and a full clear takes roughly 25–35 minutes.

Information on this page comes from the Forever beta (client builds 1.60.1.69913 to 1.60.1.70009, September 2026). Stats, drops and quest rewards can still change before launch on 4 November 2026.

The Hall of Thanes was one of the nine new dungeons announced at BlizzCon in September 2026, and was playable from the first week of the Forever beta (17 September 2026). Clearing it (or Ragefire Chasm) counts towards the first dungeon tier of the Legacy system.

History

[edit | edit source]

Beneath the High Seat lies the burial chamber of the thanes, the dwarven kings of old Ironforge. Their tomb has been broken into, most likely by Dark Iron dwarves, and grave robbers now pick through the vaults while the restless spirits of the dead roam the halls. According to the Forever developers, the Dark Iron presence here ties in with their service to Ragnaros.

King Magni Bronzebeard and the people of Ironforge want the intruders driven out and the spirits of their ancestors laid to rest. The dungeon was designed with the Alliance in mind; Horde players who want to run it have to sneak or fight their way through Ironforge first.

Getting there

[edit | edit source]

From the Great Forge, head into the High Seat (King Magni's throne room). As you enter, take the web-covered corridor on the left and follow it down the winding stairs and stone walkways into Old Ironforge. The entrance is at the bottom, at roughly 43.5, 52 on the Ironforge map. The quest givers Thom Filch and Afadra Dunwall stand by the bridge and above the entrance.

Bosses

[edit | edit source]

The two bosses in the middle of the dungeon sit in the most dangerous part of it. Clear the approaches carefully: several trash packs have casters and engineers that are worth crowd-controlling, and patrols can easily join a boss fight.

Faldrim Anvilmar

[edit | edit source]

The spirit of an ancient thane, patrolling around his own tomb in the large central room. You reach it through the west wing at the start of the dungeon.

Abilities

  • Curse – turns the victim to stone, slowing their attack speed by 20%.
  • Some groups have also reported a Shadow bolt-style cast that can be interrupted.

Tactics: Essentially a tank-and-spank. Keep threat solid on the tank so the curse doesn't spread around the group, and remove it if you have a class that can. Clear the spirits around the room before pulling. Killing him completes An Ancient Grudge.

Item Type
Ephemeral Choker Neck
Aetherwisp Bracers Wrist, Cloth
Spiritwraith Drape Back

Magmatus

[edit | edit source]

A large fire elemental. Beta client data has also named this encounter Infurnus, but the loot logs and walkthroughs all use Magmatus; it is one boss, not two.

Abilities

  • Combust – a large 360° burst of fire around the boss that hits everyone standing near him.

Tactics: The tank should turn him away from the group, and melee should be ready to step out when Combust comes. Don't stack up. His area is heavily guarded: use ranged pulls and line-of-sight to drag casters to you, and crowd-control the engineers.

Item Type
Fang of Magmatus Main Hand, Dagger
Kindlegem Girdle Waist, Mail
Flamefist Grips Hands, Leather

Plunder

[edit | edit source]

A golem, found shortly after Magmatus. The approach needs the same care with crowd control, patrols and line-of-sight.

Abilities

  • Knock-up – throws everyone near him into the air.
  • Charge – charges a random party member and briefly stuns them.

Tactics: Pull him on his own; don't let any adds join. Pulling him back into the tunnel you came in through makes his charges and knockbacks easier to manage. The tank should be ready to taunt him back after a charge, and everyone should keep an eye on the healer if they are the one charged.

Item Type
Treads of the Protector Golem Feet, Mail
Golemheart Stave Two-Hand, Staff
Golemguard Chest Chest, Mail

Durgen Dirgehammer

[edit | edit source]

The final boss, fought in the Reliquary of Kings. He is joined by two stone golems.

Abilities

  • Bleed – a damage-over-time wound on his target.
  • Fear – an area fear that can scatter the group at a bad moment.

Tactics: Kill the two golems quickly; they hit harder than they look. Keep aggro tidy so that nobody running around feared pulls threat. Loot his head for Old Ironforge Incursion, and check behind the vault doors in his room for the Treaty of Understanding tablet before using the exit lever.

Item Type
Durgen's Crescent Axe Main Hand, Axe
Robes of the Disgraced Thane Chest, Cloth
Direhammer Leggings Legs, Leather

All 12 boss drops are item level 18, require level 13 and bind when picked up. Some early reports listed slightly different stats and levels for a few items, which suggests they have been retuned between beta builds; see each item's page for its current tooltip.

Quests

[edit | edit source]

All five quests are new in Forever and can be picked up from level 9–10.

XP figures are those seen in beta play. The quest data in the beta client lists lower figures (for example 1,050 XP for An Ancient Grudge), so the final numbers may change. The client data also lists +100 Gadgetzan reputation for Important Heirlooms, which may be a placeholder.

Old Ironforge Incursion

[edit | edit source]

This is the second step of a short chain. It starts from an Underground Map that drops from the Dark Iron dwarves at Ironband's Compound in Dun Morogh (around 77.8, 61.0). Farm them until the map drops, then take it to Earthseer Farsen on the hillside around 64.8, 58.4 in Dun Morogh to receive the quest.

Important Heirlooms

[edit | edit source]

The heirlooms sit on tables, in alcoves and in burial urns and chests throughout the tomb, especially in the section full of Dark Iron Looters on the way to Plunder. Pick the quest up before going in so you can grab them as you pass.

Quest items

Walkthrough

[edit | edit source]
  1. First room and west wing – clear the entry room, then find the Ghostly Attendant for An Ancient Grudge. The west wing leads into the central tomb.
  2. Faldrim Anvilmar – clear the spirits in the central room, then fight Faldrim as he patrols around his tomb.
  3. The Dark Iron section – heading east, the route passes through Dark Iron Looters, Summoners and Engineers with Bloodhound Runts. Look for Dwarven Heirlooms on the way.
  4. Magmatus – pull the casters around him out with line-of-sight, then turn him away from the group.
  5. Plunder – pull him alone and back into the tunnel.
  6. Durgen Dirgehammer – kill his golems, survive the fears, loot his head, find the Treaty tablet behind the vault door, then use the lever to leave.

Denizens

[edit | edit source]
  • Bosses: Faldrim Anvilmar, Magmatus (Infurnus), Plunder, Durgen Dirgehammer
  • Spirits: Enraged Apparition, Tormented Soul
  • Dark Iron dwarves: Dark Iron Looter, Dark Iron Summoner (casts Fireball and summons fire elementals; interrupt it), Dark Iron Engineer (throws dynamite for area damage; Polymorph or Sap it)
  • Beasts: Bloodhound Runt (non-elite; its disease makes the target take 6 extra damage from attacks)
  • NPCs: Ghostly Attendant
  • Pick up all four outside quests first, and farm the Underground Map at Ironband's Compound if you want Old Ironforge Incursion.
  • Bring someone who can remove curses for Faldrim.
  • Polymorph and Sap are excellent on the Dark Iron Engineers. Interrupt the Summoners.
  • The middle of the dungeon is the hardest part. A party around level 15 has a much easier time than one at 13.
  • Don't leave without checking the vault doors in the last room for the Treaty tablet.
