Skinning is a primary gathering profession in World of Warcraft: Forever. Skinners collect leather, hides and scales from fully looted beasts. You need a Skinning Knife in your bags; it doesn't have to be equipped.

Forever adds Pristine Scarce leathers, a new Tanning crafting window, starter-zone Junior Skinning Trainers, and the Camp Chair / Field Guide / Trapper's Workbench camp line.

WoW: Forever is in beta. Everything on this page comes from Forever sources and the beta client, and may change before launch on 4 November 2026.

Getting started

[edit | edit source]
  • Train at any Skinning trainer. New Junior Skinning Trainers stand in the six original starting zones, and Zephras Isle has two Skinning trainers of its own.
  • Pelt Collecting for Beginners, a manual from an early starter-zone quest (around level 3–4), teaches Skinning if you know fewer than two professions and adds 2 skill, up to 15. The quest offers a choice of Herbalism, Mining or Skinning manuals.
  • Besides a Skinning Knife, the new Keen Skinning Knife and Engineering's Gnomish Army Knife both work. A new glove enchant adds 10 Skinning.
  • Hides, and Black, Red and Green Whelp Scales, stack to 20.

Training ranks

[edit | edit source]
Rank Skill range Requirement
Apprentice 1–75 Character level 5
Journeyman 75–150 Skinning 50, character level 10
Expert 150–225 Skinning 125, character level 20
Artisan 225–300 Skinning 200, character level 35

Beta testers report these rank requirements, but they can't yet be fully checked above the beta level cap.

New in Forever

[edit | edit source]

Pristine materials

[edit | edit source]

Pristine Leather, Pristine Hide and Pristine Scale are new Scarce materials, used in 141 Forever recipes.

  • Pristine Leather goes into 126 recipes. Wowhead's Forever database lists 22 creatures of level 11–21 for it, such as the Elder Black Bear in Loch Modan.
  • Pristine Hide goes into 46 recipes. Where it comes from isn't confirmed yet. One tester reports buying some from a Black Market agent in Riverglades.

Whether several players can each skin the same corpse is still unconfirmed.

Tanning

[edit | edit source]

Tanning is a new crafting window. So far its only recipes are the three camp objects.

Camping

[edit | edit source]

Skinners build camp objects that sit at a player's campfire. For how camps work, see Camping. Each craft makes 2 objects. Tier 2 and 3 need Blueprints and can be placed over a Camp Chair to replace it.

Tier Object Skill Effect Reagents Source
1 Camp Chair 20 You and others sitting nearby gain 2% critical strike chance with all spells and attacks. Does not stack with Moonkin Aura. 3 Light Leather, 2 Simple Wood Trainer (Camping 101 quest)
2 Field Guide 140 Players can read it to gain Track Beasts, plus all Camp Chair benefits. 3 Medium Leather, 2 Slimy Murloc Scale, Fine Thread Blueprint: Field Guide
3 Trapper's Workbench 300 Contains 1 trap, plus all Camp Chair benefits. 2 Simple Wood, 4 Heavy Leather, Iron Bar Blueprint: Trapper's Workbench

Legacy

[edit | edit source]

Gathering professions earn no Legacy Points. These account-wide perks help Skinning:

  • Bountiful Harvest (Professions, 5 ranks): 20–100% more Scarce materials. For Skinning, those are the Pristine leathers, not ordinary leather.
  • Working Overtime (Professions): higher skill-up chance for any tradeskill.
  • Reagent Economy (Resourcefulness): the Camp Chair costs no reagents.

Pairing

[edit | edit source]

Leatherworking is the natural partner. Pristine Leather is also used by Blacksmithing and Tailoring, and Skinning levels easily alongside questing because you skin the beasts you're already killing.
