Level Range 55–60

Stratholme is the burning ruin of Lordaeron's second city in the Eastern Plaguelands, split between the Scarlet Crusade and the Scourge forces of Baron Rivendare.

It is one of the classic endgame dungeons, with two halves entered through separate gates. The Main Gate ("Live" side) is the Scarlet Crusade's bastion. The Service Entrance ("Dead" side) is the undead half, ruled by Baron Rivendare. Its level range is above what the Forever beta had opened at the time of writing, so this page is mostly based on Classic data.

Very little Forever-specific data exists for this dungeon yet. Content marked as Classic data may change before launch on 4 November 2026.

History

[edit | edit source]
Lore from Classic – Forever may differ.

Stratholme was once one of the great cities of Lordaeron. During the Third War its grain was infected with the plague, and Prince Arthas ordered the city purged before its people could rise as undead. The Culling of Stratholme was the first step on Arthas's road to becoming the Lich King.

The city still burns. Its northern half is held by the Scarlet Crusade under Grand Crusader Dathrohan. The Crusade doesn't know that Dathrohan is really the dreadlord Balnazzar in disguise. The southern half belongs to the Scourge, commanded from the Slaughter House by Baron Rivendare, one of the Lich King's death knights.

Getting there

[edit | edit source]

Stratholme is at the far northern edge of the Eastern Plaguelands. The Main Gate is at the end of the road north. The Service Entrance is reached around the city walls to the east. The nearest flight paths are Light's Hope Chapel and, for the Alliance, Chillwind Camp in the Western Plaguelands.

Main Gate (Live side)

[edit | edit source]
Classic data – Forever may differ.
  • The Unforgiven – a ghost in the burning streets.
  • Timmy the Cruel – an abomination who appears in the market square once the surrounding undead are cleared.
  • Malor the Zealous and Cannon Master Willey – Scarlet defenders.
  • Archivist Galford – the keeper of the Scarlet archives.
  • Balnazzar – Grand Crusader Dathrohan, who reveals his true form as a dreadlord partway through the fight. He's the final boss of this side.
  • Rares and others – Hearthsinger Forresten, Skul, Stonespine, and Postmaster Malown (summoned by collecting the postboxes' keys).

Service Entrance (Dead side)

[edit | edit source]
Classic data – Forever may differ.
  • Magistrate Barthilas – guards the way into the undead half.
  • Nerub'enkan, Baroness Anastari and Maleki the Pallid – three of the Baron's lieutenants, each guarding a ziggurat. All three must die to open the way to the Slaughter House.
  • Ramstein the Gorger – a huge abomination at the Slaughter House gate, followed by waves of abominations.
  • Baron Rivendare – the death knight lord of Stratholme and the final boss. In Classic, he's the source of the Deathcharger's Reins mount.

Full loot tables: wowtbc.gg – Stratholme. In Classic, Stratholme was one of the main places the Dungeon Set 1 (Tier 0) armour dropped.
