Blackrock Spire is the fortress at the top of Blackrock Mountain, held by Warchief Rend's Blackrock orcs and General Drakkisath's black dragonflight.
It has two wings. Lower Blackrock Spire (LBRS) is the orcs' domain, and Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS) holds Rend Blackhand's throne and Drakkisath's hall. Both are endgame dungeons for level 55–60 characters. Its level range is above what the Forever beta had opened at the time of writing, so this page is mostly based on Classic data.
Very little Forever-specific data exists for this dungeon yet. Content marked as Classic data may change before launch on 4 November 2026.

History
- Lore from Classic – Forever may differ.
Blackrock Spire crowns Blackrock Mountain. After the Second War, the remnants of the Blackrock clan, led by Rend Blackhand, took it as their fortress. The black dragon Nefarian, in his mortal guise, now controls the orcs from above, and his lieutenant General Drakkisath commands the black dragonflight in the spire. Both are plotting to build an army of chromatic dragons in the halls of Blackwing Lair above.
Getting there

Quests
- Classic data – Forever may differ.
- Seal of Ascension – Vaelan's chain in the Lower Spire, which makes the key to the Upper Spire.
- Blackhand's Command – leads to the Blackwing Lair attunement (Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from Drakkisath).
- The Onyxia attunement chains (both factions) pass through the Upper Spire, needing Drakkisath's blood.
- Many chains from the Burning Steppes (Helendis Riverhorn and others) and from Kargath.
Tips
- Get the Seal of Ascension early; you can't enter the Upper Spire without it.
- The Rend event is a long gauntlet. Rest before triggering it and keep area threat and crowd control ready.
- Fire resistance is useful throughout the Spire.
