Gnomeregan is the gnomes' irradiated former capital in Dun Morogh, lost to troggs and ruled by the traitor Mekgineer Thermaplugg.

It is a large, sprawling dungeon of machinery halls, radioactive caverns and huge open chambers, and one of the longest runs at its level. Both factions run it, although Horde players have to travel deep into Alliance territory to get there. Most of its loot hadn't been seen on the Forever beta at the time of writing.

Information on this page comes from the Forever beta (client builds 1.60.1.69913 to 1.60.1.70009, September 2026) where available. Stats, drops and quest rewards can still change before launch on 4 November 2026.

History

Lore from Classic – Forever may differ.

Gnomeregan was the technological wonder of the gnomes, a city of machines built into the mountains of Dun Morogh. When hordes of troggs burst up from below and overran it, High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque took his adviser's suggestion and flooded the city with radiation to wipe them out. The plan killed many of the gnomes still inside and left the city uninhabitable. It also barely slowed the troggs.

The adviser, Mekgineer Sicco Thermaplugg, had betrayed his people. He stayed behind in the ruined city and made himself its ruler, commanding the troggs, the irradiated "leper gnomes" and a host of malfunctioning machines. The surviving gnomes now live as refugees in Ironforge and dream of taking their home back.

Getting there

The main entrance is in western Dun Morogh, through the gnomish outer works above the city. A lift takes you down to the instance portal. The Alliance usually approach from Kharanos or Ironforge. Horde players have to cross Alliance-held Dun Morogh.
