Blackrock Depths is the sprawling Dark Iron dwarf capital beneath Blackrock Mountain, ruled by Emperor Dagran Thaurissan in service to Ragnaros.
It is one of the largest dungeons in the game: a whole underground city, with a prison, an arena, a brewery, forges and an imperial palace, and more than twenty bosses. Most groups clear it in several separate runs aimed at particular sections. Both factions run it. Its level range is above what the Forever beta had opened at the time of writing, so this page is mostly based on Classic data.
Very little Forever-specific data exists for this dungeon yet. Content marked as Classic data may change before launch on 4 November 2026.

History
[edit | edit source]- Lore from Classic – Forever may differ.
Centuries ago, the Dark Iron dwarves under Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan tried to summon an elemental to win their war against the other dwarves. Instead they summoned Ragnaros the Firelord, whose arrival tore the land apart, created Blackrock Mountain and the Searing Gorge, and enslaved the Dark Irons. They have served him ever since from their city of Shadowforge, deep beneath the mountain, while Ragnaros himself dwells in the Molten Core below.
Emperor Dagran Thaurissan now rules the city. His empress is Princess Moira Bronzebeard, daughter of King Magni of Ironforge. Ironforge believes she was kidnapped, but whether she is really a prisoner is another matter.
Getting there
[edit | edit source]Blackrock Mountain stands between the Searing Gorge and the Burning Steppes. Enter the mountain, then take the chains and walkways down through the interior to the Blackrock Depths portal, which is below the entrance to Blackrock Spire. The Molten Core raid entrance is deeper inside Blackrock Depths.
Bosses

Quests
[edit | edit source]- Classic data – Forever may differ.
Blackrock Depths has dozens of quests. Some of the most important ones:
- Attunement to the Core – collect a Core Fragment near the Molten Core entrance for Lothos Riftwaker. This attunes you to the Molten Core raid.
- Dark Iron Legacy – defeat Fineous Darkvire and recover the hammer Ironfel, which gives the Shadowforge Key.
- The Royal Rescue / The Princess Saved? – Ironforge's chain to rescue Princess Moira (Alliance).
- Marshal Windsor – part of the Alliance Onyxia attunement chain, which runs through the Detention Block.
- The Rise of the Machines – the Golem Lord Argelmach chain.
- Many other chains start at Thorium Point in the Searing Gorge, Kargath in the Badlands, and Morgan's Vigil and Flame Crest in the Burning Steppes.
Tips
[edit | edit source]- Get the Shadowforge Key (Dark Iron Legacy) and the Prison Cell Key. They make runs much faster.
- Plan each run around one area; clearing all of BRD in one go takes hours.
- In the Grim Guzzler, don't anger the patrons unless you're ready for the whole bar to attack.
- Fire resistance helps against the Dark Iron casters and fire elementals.
