Overview
Orcs descend, many generations removed, from Grond, a stone giant shaped by the titan-forged Aggramar; a long chain of devolution — colossals to magnaron to gronn to ogron to ogres — eventually produced the smaller, sharp-witted orcs. Organized into shamanistic clans across the world of Draenor, they lived for centuries in relative balance with the elements until the demon lord Kil'jaeden corrupted their leaders roughly eight hundred years before the opening of the Dark Portal.
Under the warlock Gul'dan, the clans were bound into the Old Horde and forced to drink the blood of the pit lord Mannoroth, enslaving them to the will of the Burning Legion. The corrupted Horde invaded Azeroth through the Dark Portal in the First and Second Wars, only to be defeated and interned in camps. Freedom came a generation later, when the young shaman Thrall broke free, rallied his people, and — after Grom Hellscream slew Mannoroth — cleansed the orcs of their demonic taint. Thrall founded a new Horde and the city of Orgrimmar in Kalimdor, a Horde that has since weathered Garrosh Hellscream's disastrous, aggressive reign and the civil war it provoked.
Orcish culture still centers on clan loyalty, honor won in combat, and a revived shamanistic reverence for the elements; formal duels called mak'gora settle disputes of leadership and honor, and the Kosh'harg festival gathers the clans in celebration. Orcs remain steadfast members of the Horde.
